Peer support groups have exploded in popularity, as the public and the healthcare community recognize that they provide an effective complement to formal care, whether they focus on medical problems like diabetes or cancer, mental health problems like addiction or depression, or life challenges like grief or job loss. Their growth is all the more surprising when we consider that there is no profit incentive promoting their expansion – people attend because they are helpful.

You may need to navigate the large array of groups in order to help someone find a group to try. You will likely want to look for the larger set of available group resources for the people you are serving, searching both online and through personal contacts for those local and regional groups that are active in your area.
